Kitchen Tour

I truly believe the kitchen is the heart of the home. It is my favourite room in our house and it is the place everyone gathers when they come to visit.

Kitchen Tour

Our kitchen didn’t always look so pretty though. When we moved into our home it was far from the kitchen of my dreams. It was pretty unspectacular, so we knew we had our work cut out for us.

Kitchen Tour

We relocated a few of the cabinets to create more space and a better flow. It really helped to open up the space and gave us room to add a small kitchen island. Next we built bulkheads above the cabinets and built-in shelves around the fridge and pantry to create a custom look.

Kitchen Tour

The biggest transformation we saw was once we painted the cabinets. The kitchen instantly became bigger and brighter. We choose Mountain Peak White by Benjamin Moore and I’m so happy with the outcome.

Kitchen Tour

We purchased new appliances and added pot lights and pendant lights over the island. I’m still in love the schoolhouse pendant lights. My favourite purchase for the kitchen!

I love your style! I have never posted in the comments section of a blog before but felt moved to do so here! I love how you've used affordable furniture and decorations and made it look very sophisticated and polished! We also painted our wood cabinets white and everyone thinks we bought new cabinets. A little paint makes a huge difference. Thanks for sharing. You have a beautiful home.

My husband and I are currently remodeling our kitchen and have sent our cabinets to a cabinet shop to be painted white. I have yet to find a backsplash that I find suitable for the farmhouse decor I am going for but we absolutely LOVE your backsplash! Where did you find that? I HAVE to have that!! It’s perfect!

Hi Shelly, the backsplash in our kitchen was installed by the previous owner so I’m not sure what brand it is. You could show a photo of it to your local tile shop and they may be able to find something similar. I also found an option that is very similar from Home Depot (https://www.homedepot.ca/product/enigma-chiaro-tuscan-pattern-tumbled-mosaic-tile/1000146497). I hope that helps a bit, and I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful to you. Enjoy your kitchen reno, it will be amazing! 🙂

I’m 83 now and have been following your progress for a very long time…! I love your style because it’s how I have always wanted my own small home to look…….. lots of white and cream and looking so bright and cheerful. I don’t own my home but have lived here alone for 30 years, so I really can do whatever decorating I want because I’m a good tenant, but I’m slowing down a bit now due to arthritis, (and more…). 🌸
Just wanted to say that I always enjoy seeing what you’re up to and wish I could achieve that effect here. Your children are so sweet too and I’m sure your talents will rub off on them…..😊. Good luck to you all for the future.
From Nadia, in Perth, Western Australia. 💖
