Romantic Farmhouse Bedroom

Reveal Day is finally here!

This was our first time participating in the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling it Home and we’ve had so much fun. It was such a great experience and it was so motivating to have the support and encouragement of all of the other talented designers and bloggers taking part. This won’t be our last One Room Challenge!

Here is a quick recap. Linda from Calling it Home challenged bloggers to makeover a room of their choice in just six short weeks. We chose to tackle our bedroom and wanted to create a serene space that had a romantic farmhouse feel. You can catch up here:

Week One  /  Week Two  /  Week Three  /  Week Four  /  Week Five

Today we finally get to show you what we’ve been up to. The biggest transformation we made to our room was creating the paneled wall behind our bed. Sadly we decided to say goodbye to our beloved striped wall and try something new. I really wanted our bedroom to feel bright and airy, so I knew re-painting was a must. As much as I loved our striped wall, I love our new paneled wall just as much. It adds such character and interest to the room (stay tuned for a post on how we created this look).

Next came paint. We painted the panel wall in Albescent by Benjamin Moore (the same colour as our trim throughout our house). The rest of the walls got a coat of Balboa Mist by Benjamin Moore. At first I wasn’t sure I liked it, it looked so different once I put it on the walls. But now I couldn’t love it more. It’s such a pretty neutral and the perfect go-to color if you’re looking for the perfect greige.

We added additional curtains to the windows which also helped to brighten the space.

I had a lot of fun sourcing some great vintage pieces for our room. We found some great salvaged windows to layer into the space. Their weathered finish help add to that farmhouse feel. And the antique mirror above the fireplace used to be yellow gold, but a few coats of white spray paint turned it into an adorable accent piece.

I added vintage books, greenery and a lot of white elements to finish off the room and help brighten the space.

I’m still looking for the perfect chair for our room, but in the meantime, I borrowed the grey wing back chair from Zoe’s nursery.

A beautifully curated room takes time to complete. It’s important to source pieces you fall in love with and that have meaning to you, mixing new and old. You should take your time filling your home with the things you love, you shouldn’t rush through the process to simply “finish” a room or you’ll end up making purchases you don’t like.  So although our bedroom is feeling pretty near completion, I still have some additional pieces I’d like to add. I want to add a few more pillows to the bed and chair and I’d like to add something to the wall behind our bed, I just need to figure out what that is first!

We hope you like our bedroom transformation as much as we do. Let us know what you think!
