DIY Farmhouse Bench

Learn how to build a rustic DIY farmhouse bench with this simple plan | A Burst of Beautiful

A few months ago I wrote about our plans to refresh our living room and dining room and a few weeks ago I shared the complete makeover with you. I promised I would share a few more of the tutorials with you in the coming weeks, so today I am going to give you all of the details on this beautiful farmhouse bench Nick made for our dining table.

When we moved into our home three years ago we purchased a large dining table and six off-white upholstered chairs. At the time I loved it, but as you know, I like to mix things up every so often and I was ready for a change. It all felt very formal to me and didn’t quite suit our home’s overall style, which is more inviting, casual and lived-in.

I knew swapping out two of the upholstered chairs for a DIY farmhouse bench would make all the difference.

Nick used this plan from Ana White, it’s one of our favorite sources of free building plans. My handyman husband easily built it in one afternoon, and we chose to stain it black to match our dining table. While we are on the topic of change, I’m beginning to feel like the black table might be too heavy in here, maybe it’s time to switch to a table that is a little smaller and possibly white or natural wood. What do you think?

Regardless of what we change down the road, I absolutely love the way it looks. It lends a fun and carefree feeling to our dining room, which is exactly what I was hoping for. It’s the perfect place to perch for a quick bite to eat or respond to a few emails while Zoe plays in the living room.

Not to mention, it also adds additional seating, which is perfect for big family gatherings or our adorably cute dog!

I absolutely love your dining room. It’s so full of light and seems so welcoming. With your dining room table, what if you painted it using Miss Mustard Seed milk paint or something along those lines? Miss Mustard Seed has a lot of beautiful colors and I think her new color Farmhouse White or even one of her grey colors would be really nice on your table. Just a thought. Have a good day!
