Sweet and Whimsical Toddler Bedroom | Design Plan

This post contains affiliate links, see our full disclosure policy here. Thank you for helping support our blog.

Today’s post has been a long time coming…and I am so thrilled to finally be able to share our little one’s bedroom plans with you.

A few months ago we began dreaming up a sweet and simple little girl’s bedroom, full of delicate and whimsical details. We were actually going to leave this project for a while as she’s still perfectly content in her nursery, but once we started talking about our ideas I couldn’t put it off any longer. I wanted to get started right away.

It’s been such a fun project to tackle. You might remember, while I was pregnant we opted not to find out the gender of our baby and being the planner that I am, I didn’t want to wait until after the birth to set up the nursery. So instead, we decided on a gender neutral safari-themed nursery. And although I love it, I was so excited to finally start playing with all things girly this time around.

Even though our daughter is only two, she has had a lot of input into the design plans of her bedroom. Which I think is so important, I want it to be a space she feels like she had a part in creating. Her favorite color is, of course, pink…she is a girly-girl in all sense of the word. So you will definitely see a lot of pink in her new bedroom…

We decided to move her from her nursery into the guest room. It’s one of the last rooms in our home that has yet to receive a makeover. We thought it would be fun and exciting for her to have a new space to call her own, plus it gives us the opportunity to work on it without disrupting her space.

Nick has been busy adding board and batten to the walls, I love the detail and dimension this adds (we also have it in our dining room), and I knew it would be a really great addition to her bedroom. It will also help to break up the pink walls. Even the lightest shade of pink is a lot of pink once you start painting…

We will also be keeping our existing bed and simply painting the black frame white for a much lighter look. Nick will be building matching side tables for both sides of her bed, and I think I am set on painting them a soft shade of gray-blue. Or maybe staining them a pretty natural wood shade.

I really want her bed to be a soft and inviting place to land after a busy day of playing. 😉 I plan on incorporating a solid colored quilt and shams in pale pink and accenting it with a patterned duvet. I want to have a little fun mixing and matching patterns in her room, and textiles are such a great way to do that.

Shopping for accessories has definitely been the most fun, I’ve scooped up the most adorable pink and gold lamps, sweet little stuffed bunny dolls and a soft faux fur rug. I also plan to incorporate child-inspired artwork for the walls and maybe hang some book ledges to store her favorite stories on.

Finally, her windows will be getting a fresh new look with woven wood shades. We have them in our living room and bedroom, and I love the color and texture they add. Plus, the cordless option gives us peace of mind when it comes to safety.

Our hope is her bedroom will be a soothing and peaceful room, but also a place the sparks her imagination and creativity. We chose pieces that will transition with her from this early stage to her teen years, and decor items that don’t feel overly childish but are feminine and charming with a modern sensibility. Everything a little girl’s bedroom should be…

As we complete her bedroom we will be sharing every step of the way with you (be sure to join us on Instagram for sneak peeks along the way), and I can’t wait to share the full reveal…once it’s done! 😉

Hi Emily, the shades we used in the design plan and in our daughter’s bedroom reveal are the Bali Natural in Beaches/Sands. Unfortunately, this material is no longer available, but Faroe Oyster is a very close match (we’ve just received two new shades in this material and I love it!). I hope that helps!
