Simple Spring Decorating Ideas

Delicate ivy in aged terra cotta pots is a simple way to add a touch of spring to your home.

25+ bloggers share their simple spring mantle and vignette decorating ideas

This week we are joining our friend, Krista from The Happy Housie, and 25+ of our friends to share a little spring inspiration. Each day this week will feature a different spring decorating idea and today is mantles and vignettes. Even though we have a beautiful fireplace in our bedroom, I chose to share a simple spring vignette in our dining room with you.

And it really is simple. I almost felt like I was sidestepping this challenge but then I reminded myself that this is truly the way I decorate our home for spring. I tend to keep with simple ideas and avoid decorating with a “theme”. I want our home to feel fresh, youthful and inviting and the way I do this is to avoid overthinking how I decorate (although sometimes that can be a real struggle!). As the seasons’ change, I like to change the basics in our house, like art, pillows, and throws. These are inexpensive ways to freshening up the look and feel of your home, and maybe even introduce a new color or pattern.

When it comes to spring I also always incorporate fresh flowers or plants. Nothing says spring quite like a beautiful bouquet of tulips or freshly potted herbs in your kitchen.

Or simply moving a piece of furniture or a few accessories from one room to another can instantly help a space feel brand new. This is something I do all of the time, and Nick often jokes that he’s never sure what he’s going to find when he comes home from work. But I honestly find it so refreshing, and good for the soul. And as much as I love a successful shopping trip, I always try to use what we have in our home first.

But back to our dining room…

We have this beautiful sideboard in our dining room (see the free plans here), built by my incredibly talented husband, Nick. For a while now I have had this round gold mirror hung above it and two glass lamps on either side. It’s the perfect backdrop for making simple changes based on the season.

I added a white cake plate from my collection and placed a few white plates on top. Then I added a small ivy plant in a terra cotta planter to help add a bit of height, always an important factor to remember when creating a vignette or tablescape. Height adds interest and variation.

Two more potted ivy plants are added to the other side to create a balanced look, along with a mini faux succulent. Another trick I like to use when creating a vignette is to place accessories in groups of three. 🙂

I love these aged terra cotta pots because they add a bit of color, warmth, and character to an otherwise blank slate. I’ve been collecting them for a few years now and always use them in our kitchen, dining room or on our patio. They really pop against a white background.

Finally, I added this small gold orb too, it helps to play up the warmth of the terra cotta pots and adds a little extra detail.

Seriously, so easy, right? Now I hope you’ll take a few minutes to visit my friends and see what they have been up to…

Today some of my friends are sharing their beautiful and inspiring Spring mantel decor or a Spring vignette. Hop over to see what they are sharing…
