Timeless Design

April 27, 2023 | by Alicia

The Best of April 2023

It’s hard to believe April has come to an end, it feels like the month just sped by in a blur. We’ve been busy working on the cottage remodel and it’s so exciting to see it come so far so quickly. We still have a lot to do before it’s ready, and while the renovation continues, we’ve been scouring our local thrift shops and Facebook marketplace for pieces we can work into the cottage, and we’ve found some really good treasures. I’ve also been filling my cart with some amazing finds, like this moody gingham duvet, which pairs so perfectly with this gorgeous rug we will be using in one of the bedrooms.

I’ve really been relying on my ability to find budget-friendly options for the cottage that mimic higher-end designer pieces. We’ve been sharing this in an Instagram series called High Low for a while now but we shared a little bit more about it in an official introduction this month. I’ll be posting some of the High Low pieces I’ve found for the cottage in the coming weeks.

This month I also shared my tips for styling a cabinet and rounded up some of my favourite products in our Mother’s Day Gift Guide. And of course, I can’t forget we finally shared our primary bedroom update. I am so happy with how it all came together, but I think my favourite part is this beautiful quilt!

Throughout the month we’ve shared some really great finds, but these are the top 10 most popular…

Slipcovered Sofa – We’ve had this sofa for almost seven years now, and I still love it just as much as the day it was delivered. Its traditional design and neutral colour make it such a timeless piece. Oh, and it’s really comfy!

Brass Sconce – This little cutie was on High Low this month. The shape of the arm and the wicker shade give it such a whimsical look.

Brushed Charcoal Vase – This vintage vase is over 100 years old, and it would look so great filled with a couple of large branches. It’s such a statement piece.

Sunglasses – These sunglasses are on our Mother’s Day Gift Guide and I just love their really fun retro vibe!

Coastal Art Print – We will be using a lot of vintage art to add character to the cottage, and this little print is going to be perfect in the bunk room!

Wood Pedestal Bowl – This piece has such a high-end look to it, I’m adding it to my cart right now!

Hmong Pillow – The colour and print of this pillow is just so good, and the quality is amazing. One of my favourite pillows from one of my favourite shops!

Rug – We have this rug in our living room and I don’t think I will ever get tired of it. It’s the perfect mix of navy, grey, and cream, and such a timeless design.

Nightstand – Nick built our bedroom nightstands off this design. We loved it because of the inset drawers and floating top, it’s the perfect mix of traditional and modern.

Swivel Chair – Another great option from our High Low series, this cream boucle swivel chair is the perfect piece to add a modern touch to a more traditional space, and the price point is pretty good too!
