5 Subtle Spring Updates to Refresh Your Home

As the chill of winter slowly fades away, I’m eager to welcome the arrival of spring into our home with subtle touches that reflect the season. During seasonal transitions, I always incorporate simple changes into our home to make the space feel intentional and welcoming. It’s never about drastic updates or obvious seasonal decor, I prefer to make small changes that feel impactful and fit the aesthetic of our home.

Here are a few ways I transition our home from winter to spring every year…

Vintage Landscape Art

Incorporating vintage landscape art is a simple and impactful way to welcome the spring season. Look for paintings or prints that depict green fields or blooming meadows to transport you to the serene beauty of the countryside. The soft hues and intricate details of these artworks can add a touch of charm to any space, creating a sense of connection to nature.

I replaced our winter art with prints of nostalgic countryside vistas and one sweet seasonal fruit still life. I hadn’t found any original art on my weekly thrift store visits, so I downloaded vintage prints online, printed them on canvas paper and framed them in simple brass or vintage frames. It’s an inexpensive and simple update to make.

Lighten Up with Soft Textiles

Swap out heavy fabrics like velvet or wool for lighter textiles that evoke a sense of airiness. Consider incorporating a fresh pattern, like a delicate flower print or a classic gingham, to add a touch of springtime.

Celebrate Spring Blooms

Nothing says spring quite like fresh flowers in bloom. Whether you choose real or artificial, you can incorporate the beauty of nature into your home with bouquets of flowers and stems placed throughout your living spaces.

Remember, if fresh flowers aren’t always an option, high-quality faux flowers offer a similar effect without maintenance (some of my favourites), ensuring your home is always in bloom. We are still a few weeks away from blooming branches, so in the meantime, I’ve relied on some of my favourite artificial stems, like these ficus stems, and flowers to set the mood.

Embrace Natural Elements

Embrace the beauty of natural elements by incorporating them into your home. Materials, like wood, rattan or wicker furniture and accessories can add warmth and texture to your space, creating an inviting and fresh atmosphere.

Declutter and Simplify

Spring is the perfect opportunity to declutter and reorganize your home for a fresh start. Take the time to purge items you no longer need or use and organize your closets and storage areas to create a sense of order and calm.

Packing away our heavier clothing items in favour of a few new spring pieces has been much easier now that everything has a place in our new custom closet. I’ve also been going room to room tidying and organizing drawers, cupboards and tabletops to create a fresh and clutter-free space.
